Luke Engineering and Manufacturing Co. Inc. designed and built its first finishing line in 1964. This line included a tank for Chromic Acid anodizing (Type I), another for Sulfuric Acid anodizing (Type II), two for Hardcoat anodizing (Type III), and a spray booth and oven for application of Solid Film lubricants. The addition of PTFE impregnated hardcoat (Lukon 24), developed by the company's founder W. P. Hayduk, further enhanced this line of wear and corrosion resistant coatings for aluminum.
The 1970's brought several plant expansions and the development of a unique, thick, hard anodic coating especially for aluminum die-castings (LukonDC). Additional plant and office expansions occurred during the 1980's. Included in these was the design and installation of an automatic Chromate Conversion line.
Most recently, a second plant was opened with state-of-the-art computerized process controls, water recycling, and hazardous waste minimization technology. The original plant was modernized and upgraded to include this new technology. Also, a new patented hardcoating process for magnesium (Magoxid-Coat) was licensed and marketed. Luke's current capabilities include five anodizing lines with twelve process tanks in two plants for maximum dependability and minimum lead times.
