Loraas History
Loraas is Saskatchewan’s leader in waste transfer and recycling services – a proud, local company with global standards. For more than 50 years, we’ve been building a reputation of excellence, dedicated to the changing and growing needs of our residential and commercial customers.
Today, we offer one of the most advanced recycling and waste management services available anywhere in Canada. Our commitment to our customers, our employees, and the environment drives everything we do. We’re proud to be the largest independently-owned solid waste collection, recycling and disposal company in Saskatchewan, and one of the of largest in Western Canada.
1965
Loraas Disposal was founded in Saskatoon, by Bruce Loraas.
1987
Loraas Disposal opens Northern Landfill, becoming Saskatchewan’s first privately owned landfill. Northern Landfill was also the first landfill in the province to employ advanced engineering technology to contain solid waste in a safe, environmentally conscious manner.
1995
All Green Recycling was opened to satisfy the recycling needs of Loraas Disposal customers.
2000
Loraas Disposal branched into residential curbside collection with our first community, the Village of Clavet. In the next ten years the number of residential addresses that we collect from would grow to over 14,000 households in the communities around Saskatoon.
2011
All Green Recycling is re-branded to Loraas Recycle, with the installation of the province’s first single stream recycling processing system. Just like in 1995, Loraas listened to our customers and realized that we needed to be able to recycle their household tin and aluminum, plastics, and beverage containers, in addition to their paper and cardboard. Our single stream recycling facility uses leading edge technologies to mechanically sort the materials placed into one single container – making recycling with Loraas the most easy and convenient method available.
2012
Loraas is awarded the City of Saskatoon’s curbside recycling contract, adding 53,000 addresses to our 12,000 existing recycling subscription customers in Saskatoon.
2017
Loraas operates a fleet of over 60 trucks, maintains two full service shops, and employs a staff of over 200 people. Loraas Recycle is now one of the largest materials recovery facilities in the province and services commercial and municipal customers throughout Saskatchewan.
