Livermore eWaste is a FREE electronic waste collection center that is certified by the State of California (CEWID #111814), and operates in compliance with the Department of Toxic Substances Control (Handler ID# 2432). Conveniently located just off of the North Livermore exit on Interstate 580, we are proud to serve both residents and businesses of not only the Tri-Valley Area, but the entire San Francisco Bay Area. An independently owned and operated local business, Livermore eWaste has been a part of the community since May of 2010. In an effort to divert hazardous materials (such as those that are found in many electronic devices) from our landfills, we accept a wide variety of electronic items free of charge. The items we collect at Livermore eWaste are transfered to other California certified businesses and properly recycled. Not only is Livermore eWaste conveniently open 6 days a week for your drop-offs, we also provide pick-up service for your home, business, school, church or other organization. We are happy to organize neighborhood e-waste collection events and fundraisers for non-profits and other charitable causes. For more information about where we are located, what kinds of waste we accept, what electronic waste is, how to organize an e-waste collection event, and various other questions you may have, please follow the links on the top and right side of the page. If you still have questions, feel free to call us at 925-348-2818 or email us at info@livermoreewaste.com. Thank you for recycling.
E-waste is a popular, informal name for electronic products nearing the end of their “useful life.” Computers, televisions, VCRs, stereos, copiers, and fax machines are common electronic products. Many of these products can be reused, refurbished, or recycled. Unfortunately, electronic discards is one of the fastest growing segments of our nation’s waste stream. In addition, some researchers estimate that nearly 75 percent of old electronics are in storage, in part because of the uncertainty of how to manage the materials. Combine this with increasing advances in technology and new products headed towards the market and it is no wonder that “e-waste” is a popular topic. Most electronic devices contain a variety of materials, including metals, that can be recovered for recycling. Recycling your waste electronics saves resources and protects the Earth because new metals don’t have to be mined. In addition, some electronic products contain high enough levels of certain materials, such as lead, that render them hazardous waste when disposed. For instance, California law designates waste televisions and monitors as hazardous. Hazardous wastes cannot be disposed with municipal trash. The Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2003 designated certain electronic products as being covered by a fee and payment system to encourage the proper recycling of the products when they become waste. As of July 1, 2004, “covered electronic devices” and “covered electronic wastes” include televisions and computer monitors that contain a cathode ray tube (CRT), laptop computers, and liquid crystal display (LCD) desktop computer monitors, plasma, LCD televisions, and portable DVD players. The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) continues to test other products to determine if they should be covered by the program.
