It was in the area of ​​waste treatment and recovery that LIPOR first specialized.

LIPOR – Intermunicipalized Waste Management Service of Greater Porto – was founded in 1982 as an Association of Municipalities and manages, values ​​and treats urban waste produced by the eight municipalities that comprise it: Espinho, Gondomar, Maia, Matosinhos, Porto, Póvoa de Varzim , Valongo and Vila do Conde. At the same time, we continued to share good practices, complemented with awareness-raising campaigns among the population.
 
We treat around 500 thousand tons of urban waste produced by around 1 million inhabitants every year.

We are based on modern waste management concepts, which advocate the adoption of integrated systems and the minimization of waste disposal in landfills. For this reason, we have developed an integrated management strategy based on four main components: Multimaterial Recovery, Organic Recovery and Energy Recovery, complemented by a sanitary landfill to receive process rejects and previously prepared waste.

And this universe grew naturally and we increasingly embraced new projects and services, thus reinforcing our strategic path. We are inspired by the principles of the Circular Economy and, therefore, we manage the waste we receive daily and aggregate the three pillars of Sustainable Development: environmental, economic and social.

Over the last few years, our work has been celebrated with different awards and recognitions , encouraging us to continue working towards an increasingly sustainable future.
