The History of Koenig Iron Works
Over a Century of Experience
1907 was a year of many firsts in New York City’s history. It was the busiest year ever for Ellis Island, with over one million immigrants arriving on its shores. The Lusitania made its maiden voyage from Liverpool, England to New York City. The great bank panic began and ended, the first electric-powered ball dropped in Times Square on New Year’s Eve, and Koenig Iron Works opened its doors for business.
In the ensuing century, New York City and Koenig Iron Works would go on to survive two World Wars, the Wall Street Crash of 1929, the Great Depression, and the Great Recession of 2008.
Three Generations of Success
Koenig’s long-standing commitment to quality and craftsmanship over the past 100 years has allowed it to not only survive, but to thrive and become an established, premiere structural and miscellaneous steel fabricator and erector. Koenig Iron Works Inc. offers a full range of steel construction services that have stood the test of time while maintaining the same high standards and individual attention our clients have come to expect since it opened its doors in 1907.
Our commitment to quality and craftsmanship can trace its roots over a century to the company’s founder, Isidore Leistner, an old world artisan and blacksmith with a passion for detail.
In 1940 his son, Sol Leistner, carried on the Koenig tradition of exacting work and demanding standards while expanding the companies capabilities and client base. In fact, one of the company’s original clients, Columbia University, is still a valued client today. Their combined histories tell a story of excellence in their respective fields, and perseverance under any economic conditions.
Today, Koenig’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Barry Leistner, marks the third generation to continue the family tradition of pride and excellence in a job well done. Under his stewardship, Koenig Iron Works has become a leader in the use of technology and innovation in providing a full range of steel construction services and products manufactured to exacting engineering standards, and always with our clients needs foremost in mind.
That’s why we feel very comfortable when we say Koenig Iron Works epitomizes The Convergence of Artistry and Engineering in providing our clients with quality workmanship and impeccable service.
