A Breath of Fresh Air: APS Participant Hospitals Utilize Contract for Cleaner Air
Each year, the National Air Filtration Association (NAFA) presents its prestigious Clean Air Award to a handful of companies across the nation. APS hospitals have been among those companies awarded in the past four years and have been the only hospitals in Kansas or Missouri to be honored throughout the award's lifetime. What's the common thread? All four of these APS Participants utilize the APS contract with Koch Filter Corp.
Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare in Clinton, MO, is among the 21 award recipients for 2011. In 2011, Dick Ballard of Koch Filter worked closely with Golden Valley's Lonnie Carneal, Director of Engineering, to upgrade filtration to MERV 14 V-cell minipleats for lower pressure drop and subsequently more air velocity and energy savings along with MERV 8 prefilters. They completed gasket and filter housing sealing coupled with implementing a detailed filter change and equipment maintenance schedule. Continuous monitoring of system pressure along with a regimen of coil cleaning and drain pan treatment helps the facility keep the system at maximum capacity and operating efficiency.
Award candidates are nominated by both NAFA members and members of the facility management community. The nominators must submit detailed proof of specific steps taken toward cleaning the indoor environment through better air filtration. A NAFA Certified Air Filter Specialist confirms the improvements. Ballard nominated Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare for the 2011 award.
Previous APS NAFA Clean Air Award recipients are:
2010: Liberty Hospital, Liberty, MO
2009: Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS
2008: Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, KS
"I think an award of this magnitude from NAFA is a highly distinguished honor for any organization to receive," Ballard said. "The winners show they are concerned with the air their employees and patients are breathing, and they are simply on top of their game."
The Koch Filter team works hand-in-hand with its hospital clients to develop total air filtration solutions for facilities. Newly designed filtration products have helped hospitals dramatically increase efficiency, and Koch Filter will work with you to determine what products are most cost effective and operationally effective for your facility.
