COMPANY HISTORY
A company with tradition
As early as 1872 , company founder Heinrich Knüver applied for a traveling trade license in Borghorst and began very modestly.
Equipped with "Kiepe" and "Holschken", he went from farm to farm as a Kiepenkerl, collected and exchanged for his daily bread. Later by handcart, when the first regular customers became apparent.
Even then, Heinrich Knüver recognized that raw materials are valuable materials that should not be carelessly thrown away, but must be recycled in a meaningful way.
With "rags and scrap iron" he led the company into the 20th century and storage problems soon arose. The initial storage space was no longer sufficient, meanwhile the entire courtyard behind the house was included. Shortly after the First World War, Gustav and August Knüver joined the company and seized the opportunity and recognized the increasing demand for steel and iron. Soon afterwards, a plot of land on what was then Meerstraße could be purchased cheaply, on which a warehouse and an office were built. The first motor-driven tractor was purchased, but the work remained hard and arduous.
"Knüver Alt- u. Abfallstoffe Abwreckbetriebe" developed steadily, despite all the turmoil and adversity of the Third Reich. Even the Allies recognized the location of the company premises as an easily accessible hub and in the meantime operated a replenishment depot on the premises.
After the end of the war, the task was to remove the destruction, salvage bridges and dismantle steam engines. The first few years were tough and everything had to be done by hand. But then they got hold of the first Opel Blitz, which was made roadworthy with a lot of "patience and spit". HEINRICH KNÜVER OHG had developed so well that it now even had its own rail connection and modest loading machines. In the meantime, Josef and August Knüver, the successors, had joined the company and continuously expanded the customer base. In the 1960s, investments were made in the machine park, rope excavators and trucks were purchased. The used iron trade, which is traditionally connected with the scrap trade, was supplemented by the "New Iron Trade" department thanks to good demand. With a lot of experience and ingenuity, larger demolition objects were tackled and successfully implemented.
In the mid-1970s , Knüver came up with the idea of using flexible containers to offer customers greater service while reducing costs at the same time. The solution for container trucks. These quickly caught on and soon the container network was systematically expanded around Borghorst. Thanks to the wide range of possible uses, other materials besides scrap and metal were soon transported and disposed of.
In 1984 and 1987 , Axel and Gerrit Knüver joined their parents' company and now worked hand in hand, constantly striving to imitate their fathers and grandfathers and to continue the successful family tradition. Computers and electronic data processing were introduced and the vehicle fleet was gradually brought completely up to date with the latest technology.
The largest investment to date was made in early 1996 realized. In almost a year of construction, a seven-figure sum was invested in the fortification and redesign of around 8,000 m². The latest environmental and wastewater requirements were hereby met, thus laying the foundation for further successful cooperation with business partners. A fully digital 60 to vehicle scale was also installed.
In June 1998 the certification for "Waste Management Company" after the circular economy u. Waste Act (KrW- / AbfG). This qualification gives our customers the security of knowing that they are working with the right recycling professional.
In the course of the company's succession, Axel and Gerrit Knüver were appointed managing directors of the renamed Knüver GmbH & Co. KG in April 2003 .
At the beginning of 2012 our new office building, the construction of which started in 2011, was completed
