Never resting on the laurels of our 125 year-plus history, KCI continues to invest in the future on all fronts of our steel business. Strategic vision, capital advancements, acquisitions, and hard work are at the core of our values. As a result, KCI continues to improve and expand in all aspects of our business.

We are one of the only steel and wire products companies that can truly claim to be ‘American Made’. Therefore, we have the competitive advantage of closely monitoring every facet of the processes that directly affect quality, production and delivery time.

Most of the steel for our products comes from our mill in Peoria, IL. Continual capital advancements at Keystone Steel & Wire (KSW) have led to significant improvements. Most recently, the plant has been augmented by a multimillion dollar investment to our rod and wire mills. As a result, we are able to produce some of the most exacting high carbon and CHQ grade steel and wire products available. These new capabilities extend our product offerings to existing and new customers, while providing entry into new end product markets.

KSW is also home to Red Brand agricultural fence products. As a leader in the market since 1889, Red Brand’s quality and reliability rely on the strict tolerances and specific alloy formulas of the steel making process. The result is a stronger, longer-lasting fence and a legacy worthy of its reputation.

Engineered Wire Products (EWP), our structural mesh company, is located in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. The company serves the pre-cast and cast-in-place construction market. EWP increased its market presence with the acquisitions of two competitor facilities – Reinforcement Systems in Las Cruces, NM and Van Merksteijn U.S.A. in Warren, OH. The addition of these companies significantly expanded EWP’s capacity, geographic reach into the West and Northeast. It also expanded their product offering to include tunnel mesh.

Keystone Bar Products, our bar mill in Chicago Heights, IL, recently completed a major pass design and control upgrade. These changes improved both quality and production time, and the benefits are already being felt by our customers.

In 2016, KCI acquired Summerville, SC-based Strand Tech Manufacturing (STM). We now have the capability to produce and ship PC Strand Wire Rod, the newest offering in our diverse and growing lineup of wire rod capabilities. STM’s 1080 carbon steel PC Strand Wire Rod is offered in the common finished rolling sizes of 7/16″, 3/8″, 1/2″ and qualifies under technical standard ASTM A-416. The addition of this high value-added product opens a brand new market for KCI.
