Family-owned and operated, Kard’s two locations in New Berlin (Milwaukee) and Madison are convenient, secure and customer-friendly.

Kard recycles paper, plastic, aluminum and cardboard. We also perform confidential shredding of important records and other items.

Kard is bonded, insured and a member of the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID).

DESCRIPTION

Kard was founded in 1975 by Clifford Kernen, a former computer programmer and a man deeply committed to his family and community. While working in the computer field, he witnessed a tremendous amount of waste, as computer punch cards were used once then thrown away by the thousands

Cliff started gathering punch cards and computer paper from his company, and stored it in his garage. His wife, Bernadette and their 7 children would help sort the different grades of paper to increase the value. When he had filled a trailer, he would sell it to a scrap yard in Milwaukee.

In 1973 Cliff took the big step of quitting his job to become a full-time recycler. He named the start-up “Kard” for punch cards, changing the ‘c’ to ‘K’ for the Kernen family name.

Today, Kard Recycling has 35 years of recycling experience and a track record of superior service to its customers. With two locations in New Berlin and Madison, Kard is able to respond to Wisconsin’s ever-increasing need for environment-friendly recycling and confidential shredding!

Although Cliff and Bernadette are retired, their original commitment to quality, personalized services has been skillfully assumed by son, Tom, and his wife, Gina, who purchased the company in 2009. Since that time, Kard has emerged as a leading innovator of recycling programs, products and services throughout Wisconsin.

In 2010 the company introduced, GONZO, an innovative material deposit and managment container designed and patented by Tom Kernen.
