Kansas Electric Power Cooperative, Inc. (KEPCo), headquartered at Topeka, Kansas, was incorporated in 1975 as a not-for-profit generation and transmission (G&T) cooperative.
In 1980, KEPCo was granted a limited certificate of convenience and authority by the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) to act as a G&T public utility and its rates were regulated by the KCC. On October 21, 2009, KEPCo's rates were deregulated from the KCC, as allowed under Kansas Statute No. 66-104d.
KEPCo is a Touchstone Energy Cooperative. Touchstone Energy is a nationwide alliance of more than 600 cooperatives committed to promoting the core strengths of electric cooperatives--integrity, accountability, innovation, personal service and a legacy of community commitment. The national program is anchored by the motto "The Power of Human Connections."
