John Williamson 1988 is the trading name for Rosefield Salvage ltd for it's operations in the North East of Scotland. The Williamson family own and operate 5 depots throughout Scotland making us one of the largest independent Metal Recycling Groups operating in Scotland.
The Williamson family have been involved in metal recycling and exporting since 1927. The business was started by Thomas Williamson in Elgin, Scotland it has remained active for over 90 years including throughout the second world war where it operated as an essential business. Over this time the waste and metal recycling industry has changed dramatically. As the original "green industry" metal recycling has been well established for a long time but with the public's interest in recycling and saving the planet firmly in the forefront of peoples consciousness it has been pushed to a new level of importance.

The Waste and Metal recycling industry has become a profession, to be run by professional people, as our group has grown and evolved, we have moved from Thomas's original site to 5 purpose built recycling facilities, now in our third and fourth generation the growth has been organic and the depth of retained knowledge extensive.

HISTORY OF JOHN WILLIAMSON 1988
The Williamson family bought the Fraserburgh based, long established firm of John Williamson scrap merchants in 1988 and formed the current business. For the last 30 years we have been serving the the North East of Scotland from our Fraserburgh & Peterhead bases, providing our customers with scrap metal, waste management, recycling and skip hire services.

Initially based in Denmark Street, Fraserburgh the firm expanded to deal with rising demands from the oil and gas sector. In 1992 we opened a small site at Peterhead harbour, just over a decade later with a dramatic increase in demand, plans were drawn to build our first purpose built waste management facility and recycling centre. By 2004 our fully cemented and intercepted 1.5 acre facility was opened and we moved into the Dales Ind Estate site. Our new larger site allowed us to expand the size of our business, process more metal and increase the level of recycling being achieved with the general waste.

As the business continued to grow and expand more services were included concentrating on the reuse as well as recycling of waste materials. Focus was turned to up-cycling (taking old used items and giving them another lease of life) all as part of the circular economy we are trying to promote. With this in mind a larger 2 acre site was designed to provide not only increased capacity but also to provide space to store and promote reusable materials, plate, beams, angles, channel, chain etc. In the summer of 2016 John Williamson 1988 opened the Natdian Recycling Centre which was fully licenced to not only handle scrap metal and general waste but ELV (End of life vehicles), WEEE (Waste electrical and electronic equipment) and the Decommissioning of Offshore Equipment. Moving from our original site in Denmark street to our new purpose built site in the Westshore Industrial Estate allowed us to operate as a hub for oversized loads, pipes and more specialist segregation of non-ferrous metals. Our staff have a wealth of knowledge and experience in the waste industry. With many members of our team having worked with us for over a decade some even for a quarter of a century.
