Jacobs Beton was founded in 1932 by Jozef Jacobs, grandfather of current directors Erik and Kurt. In these good old days it was mainly hands that had to do all the work. At that time, production was mainly focused on the manufacture of closures, concrete pits, all types of custom work, etc. The activities also included the sale of building materials and the installation of the manufactured products.
In 1968 Jan Jacobs took over from his father. Initially he remained faithful to his father's way of working, but as a twenty-two-year-old boy he did have a vision for the company's future. Jan modernized and automated the production process, increasing output and turnover and enabling further investments and expansions.
In 1999, a major step was taken with the establishment of a new concrete plant on the Dreefvelden in Sint-Katelijne-Waver. As a result, the installation at the Berlaarbaan in Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-Waver was relieved and a larger production of poured concrete became possible.
Shortly after the start-up of the new concrete plant, EK Recycling was established as a new company in 2001. A crushing installation for stone rubble was installed here, as well as the necessary screening installations. This makes it possible to reuse the stone rubble as a foundation raw material that has been removed from all contamination.
Erik and Kurt Jacobs have developed a special procedure for processing aerated concrete rubble that also allows these decomposition materials to end up in a new circuit.
In 2003 the company B&D Systems was taken over and placed under the wings of the Jacobs family. The company name was retained and the work continued as usual. In addition to basements, this company also carries out other concrete structures such as private swimming pools, water purification stations, loading and unloading quays, etc.
Jan Jacobs withdrew in 2011. Subsequently, his sons Erik and Kurt were appointed as directors of NV Jacobs.
In 2014, Jacobs Beton opened a new concrete plant in Hemiksem, located along the Scheldt. The raw materials for this concrete plant are delivered directly by ship. The installations are designed to process 400,000 tons of sand, gravel and waste annually.
