J. Cloud, Inc.'s history began in 1925, when Mr. Joel J. Cloud's family moved to the San Diego area. Mr. Cloud's experience in the construction field began in the 1950's as a heavy equipment operator, manager and ultimately a business owner/partner in C&H Construction and Demolition in 1965. In 1978, Mr. Cloud purchased a 94 acre granite quarry named Hester's Granite Pit located in the East County of San Diego. He ran this quarry and was involved in day to day operations from 1978 until 1993.In 1993 the quarry was leased to H.G. Fenton Materials and Mr. Cloud helped found J. Cloud, Inc. as a recycled materials aggregate producer, supplier, and general contractor. JCI has been instrucmental in the acceptance of recycled rock and sand by local City and County agencies. When JCI begain crushing concrete and asphalt for recycle, its only used was for Class II base material. JCI believed that there were better uses for recycled rock than just road base, so we set out to get our recycled rock approved by local agencies. We soon discovered that the best way for us to keep our recycled rock in spec was to wash it. By washing it, JCI was the first recycle operation in San Diego County to have recycled rock approved for use by the City of Chula Vista, City of San Diego, County of San Diego, and the City of La Mesa. We have since has our recycled sand approved for use by many local agencies including Sempra Energy. JCI was able to produce washed recycled 3/4" and 3/8" rock, washed recycled S.E. 50 and S.E. 70 sand, dry screened S.E. 30 and S.E. 50 sand along with SDG&E sand and screened fill dirt.From it's founding, JCI has held a Class-A General Engineering license within the state of California. In the earlier years JCI was focused on the recycled aggregate materials production; however, in more recent years JCI has shifted it's focus back to it's original roots of contracting. In 2012 JCI leased its quarry to Robertson's Ready-Mix along with the recycling operations. This recent change directed even more resources and focus to the Utility and General Contracting projects being completed by JCI.
