Gradus Brink set out with his cargo bike to collect used things from people's homes. He later switched to scrapping old trucks.
From an early age, his son Willem helped in his father's business. When Willem finished primary school at the age of twelve, he started working full-time for his father. Seven years later Willem was included in the business. In the same year, they shifted their activities to collecting and recycling iron and metal. Until the death of father at the age of 60, father and son have always worked together.
Geertje, Gradus' wife, has always had an important supporting role in the company and even now she still helps Willem every day.
G&W Brink iron and metal trade has now grown into a modern company and is affiliated with the Metal Recycling Federation. The materials are stored on the extensive site, which comes from, among others, the Netherlands, Europe and the Windward Islands.
In addition, metal is collected by placing containers at various companies. All materials are sorted by type of metal and then cut. Brink has one of the largest shears in the Northern Netherlands. After cutting, the material goes to Amsterdam, where it is transported abroad. There the metal is recycled.
Willem Brink wants to further modernize and expand the company in the future. Of course there is the wish that the next generation Brink. (Willem has 2 sons and a daughter) will later take over the company. Both sons already regularly work at the company, which seems to guarantee the future for the Brink company.
