Combating Global Climate Change and Strengthening International Cooperation in Waste Management.”
The EUROPEAN UNION has accelerated its steps in this direction by putting the Circular Economy as a strategic goal in recent years. Aiming to recycle 75% of packaging waste by 2030, the EU aims to increase this rate to 65% in municipal waste.
Effective strategy and planning studies that increase public awareness on waste prevention and support reduction by waste type in the EU have been moved to an advanced stage with new directions during and after 2010. In studies where best practices are included in new plans; It was aimed to provide strong prevention and reduction and effective recycling. European Commission 2008/98/EC- EU Waste Management Framework Directive, 1999//31/EC-Storage Regulation, 94/62/EC-Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, propose a new regulation to review the targets related to recycling and other waste and its annexes on 2 June 2014. This new proposal was prepared to help Europe transition to a circular economy, increase recycling, strengthen access to raw materials, create jobs and drive economic growth.
In the offer; Increasing the rate of recycling and reuse of municipal wastes to 70% by 2030, increasing the rate of recycling and reuse of packaging waste – which foresees a gradual increase according to the waste type – to 80% (between 2020 and 2030 by increasing recycling and 2025 90% for paper, 60% for plastic, 80% for wood, 90% for glass, metal and aluminium by the end of 2030) end of storage for recyclables (plastics, paper, metal, glass and biomass) by 2025 so that there is no danger reaching a maximum of 25% in waste storage.
By 2025, taking measures to reduce the production of food waste by 30%, establishing an early warning system that can monitor possible compliance difficulties in member countries, developing and disseminating best practices in member countries, improving the traceability of hazardous wastes, ensuring that the minimum conditions for the activities of the polluter-pays waste producer are met. by determining-detailing its responsibility in a cost-effective manner, simplifying the reporting obligation in SMEs, removing obsolete legal definitions in waste regulations, harmonizing the definitions and ensuring end-to-end consistency.
Today, where natural resources play a key role in the quality of human life, countries review their activities not only for themselves but for the benefit of the whole world. In today's conditions, where secondary resources are equivalent to natural resources, the "3R" (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) principle adopted by industrial circles is supported in order to implement the sustainable development and circular economy model. These stages, which we can call manufacturers' waste reduction, reuse and recycling, play a role in eliminating environmental concerns and supporting technological developments as well as recycling.
On the other hand, the European Union will accept only 10% of all waste produced into solid waste landfills. While shaping its entire circular economy, the EU emphasizes the economic dimension. By 2030, it is calculated that with the reuse of waste as secondary raw material in Europe, an annual contribution of 600 billion Euros to the EU economy will be achieved.
IREMCON, which was started to be organized on this basis and aims to bring together the leading institutions and organizations of the waste sector in the Balkans and to strengthen international cooperation, aims to contribute to the achievement of an effective waste management based on industrialization and legislative harmonization.
IREMCON's target audience is all public institutions and organizations that fall under the scope of waste and recycling, as well as sectors that provide industry-oriented production and service.
