Our performance is guided by expertise from inside and outside Hudbay. We require our operations to become certified under the ISO 14001 environmental standard and the OHSAS 18001 health and safety standard within two years of start-up, and to follow the Mining Association of Canada’s Towards Sustainable Mining protocols.

We have adopted a number of voluntary codes and participate in external initiatives considered particularly relevant to our business, including:

CDP Water Disclosure – a global program promoting sustainable corporate water stewardship.

Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights – developed by a partnership of NGOs, national governments and extractive industry and energy companies to guide companies in maintaining the safety and security of their operations within an operating framework that ensures respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Towards Sustainable Mining initiative of the Mining Association of Canada – a set of tools and indicators designed enable mining companies to meet society’s needs for minerals, metals and energy products in the most socially, economically and environmentally responsible way.
