Recycling and dismantling as a family tradition

The family company, founded in 1936, now employs around 20 people and is proudly in the third generation. The company's field of activity has specialized in trading in recycled goods and building demolition since it was founded. Trust in many years of know-how.

History of a family business

Walter Hiltbrunner, son of a carpenter from Wyssachen, initially worked as a butcher. In a magazine he happened to read a self-biography of a demolition contractor which inspired him. Together with his brothers Fritz, Emil and Paul, Walter built up a scrap materials business. After several successful years in the waste materials trade, Walter and his wife Katharina Hiltbrunner-Jordi founded their own company in Grasswil BE, with which, in addition to the waste material trade, they were now also involved in house demolition.

The demolitions during this time were done entirely by hand. Demolitions of all kinds were carried out with horse and cart, tools in the bicycle trailer and four to six men. With his first demolitions, Walter Hiltbrunner sold reusable building materials directly from the construction site. Unsold goods ended up in the sales warehouse in Grasswil.

In 1960, Walter Hiltbrunner bought the joinery and sawmill business from Karl Ruegger in Riedtwil and built the new commercial property on the purchased site. Due to a national construction stop with a ban on demolition in the 1960s, Walter expanded the business area with the trade in building materials.
