The establishment of the Hellenic Recycling Utilization Company (EEAA) in December 2001 was an initiative of Greek companies active in the production of packaging and marketing of packaged products, in order to meet more effectively their legal obligation to recycle packaging waste through their products. the management of their resources, in the context of national and European legislation.
EEAA responding to the above needs, in accordance with the provisions of law 2939/01, has developed and operates throughout Greece the System of Collective Alternative Management - ANAKYCLOSIS (SSED - RECYCLING), based on six-year Business Plans approved by the competent Authorities.
EEAA is a very successful example of cooperation between producers or importers of packaging of products available in the Greek market and the Local Authorities (OTA) of the country, which are legally responsible for the collection of municipal waste.
Regarding its shareholder composition, 35% of the shares belong to the Central Union of Greek Municipalities (KEDE) while the rest belong to industrial and commercial enterprises that according to the Law are obliged to take care of the collection and utilization of the packaging of their products. .
GAEC does not operate for profit but for the benefit of the public interest, as provided by the current legal and regulatory framework.
