Originally an employee of Derby Construction Company of Lousiville, William R. Harrod bought the Franklin County Stone Quarry in 1970 with partner Robert Carter. Together they formed Harrod Carter Company and eventually expanded the business to include ready mix concrete plants at the quarry in Frankfort and on South Forbes Road in Lexington. In 1984, Bill bought out Bob Carter and the company came to become known as Harrod Concrete and Stone. Upon Bill's passing in 2000, his son, David Harrod, took over as President and CEO. He stills runs the company today and continues the family legacy with his daughter, Eileen Harrod, who currently serves as the company's Chief Financial Officer.
