History
Harry Walter started Hanover Iron Works in the basement of his home in 1952. In the beginning, Harry and his son Richard were the only two employees of the small residential rails company. However, the small company of two quickly expanded. Hanover Iron Works grew to be so large that Harry had to expand his garage approximately four times to accommodate the rapidly developing business.
After Harry passed away in 1981, Richard took over the management of Hanover Iron Works. By 1990, the company had already started producing stairs and other miscellaneous metals and Richard knew that the company’s facility would soon be unable to support this still growing business. He purchased eight acres of land and built an approximately 18,000 square foot building on Gitts Run Road in Hanover and Richard and his 12 employees moved the booming business into their new, spacious structure. In January of 2000, Richard sold the business to his son, Rex. While attending high school, Rex began working at Hanover Iron Works part-time and after he graduated in 1979, he signed on as a full-time employee. Little did Rex know that a little over 20 years later he would become the owner of Hanover Iron Works. The continued success of the company required Rex to expand the Gitts Run Road building, and he built a 5,000 square foot addition in February of 2000 and increased the office even more when he added-on to make room for detailers in 2006.
Ultimately, 52 years after starting the small business with his father, Richard Walter passed away in July of 2004 and four years later, in July of 2008, Rex decided it was time to sell the business.Today Hanover Iron Works has 35 full-time employees and our facility has expanded to 31,000 square feet on 10 acres of true Hanover soil.
