The CIDIU was born in 1972 as a water purification consortium for the municipalities of Collegno, Grugliasco and Rivoli. Over the years it has also expanded its skills to urban cleaning, the collection and disposal of solid urban waste, the maintenance of green areas, environmental awareness and education.

In 2002 the CIDIU completed the catchment area envisaged by the provincial waste management plan , with the entry of the Municipality of Pianezza, which thus joined the Municipalities of Alpignano, Buttigliera Alta, Druento, San Gillio and Villarbasse (entered the March 26, 1999), Rosta (January 2000) and the Comunità Montana Valsangone (which includes the municipalities of Giaveno, Coazze, Valgioie, Reano, Trana and Sangano, entered on January 2, 2001).

2002 was an important year for the company , which in exchange for shares transferred the historic water purification plant to the company Sma Torino and which approved the project for the construction of a selection and composting plant in Druento ( PuntoAmbiente). The first step was necessary in light of the legislation that came into force with the Galli law, which introduced the concept of an optimal territorial area for the integrated management of the water cycle.

On June 27, 2003, the historic turning point of the Company took place which, as provided for by article 35 of the financial law and regional law No. government of the waste system (CADO.S.) and a joint stock company, which received the entire company complex (CIDIU SpA - Inter-municipal center of urban hygiene).

On May 31, 2007, CIDIU SpA takes over 100% of the subsidiary Sinergie 2000 from private shareholders, remaining the sole shareholder.

On 19 December 2008, with an extraordinary shareholders' meeting, the company name of Sinergie 2000 was changed to Cidiu Servizi SpA . On December 30, 2008, the company acquired the operating company branch of Cidiu SpA, with the ownership of the service contracts with the Municipalities ("in house").

From 1 May 2011 the Municipality of Venaria Reale has passed from the Consortium of Basin 16 to the Consortium of Basin 15 (CADO.S.) . The CIDIU Shareholders' Meeting approved the extension of the urban sanitation service on the territory of the Municipality of Venaria Reale, bringing the number of Municipalities served to 17.

For over thirty years, the Consortium / Company's commitment has been paying increasing attention to the problems of recovering the materials contained in the waste and energy saving. Investments and efforts have been directed towards separate waste collection, an important tool for environmental protection .

Almost 50 years after its foundation, the book "Cidiu - A public company in the context of the Turin metropolitan area" tells the story of the Inter-municipal Center for Urban Hygiene in the western area of ​​Turin, among the top 40 largest environmental managers in Italy.

Written by Marco Lo Bue, Agronomist and Cidiu Manager in the decade 2002/2012, the volume tells of Cidiu's entrepreneurial adventure which began in 1972, when, faced with the dizzying demographic, economic and industrial development of the western area of ​​Turin three major municipalities (Rivoli, Collegno and Grugliasco) created a consortium for water purification, a completely new choice in a context in which energy, aqueducts and waste were still managed locally by small cooperatives, municipal services or contracting companies.
