OUR HISTORY: FOCUSED, YET FLEXIBLE
1972: Starting with an interest in producing race car parts for personal use and resale, Griner has grown to be a leading provider of high volume precision machined products and related services.
1978: Griner Engineering officially founded to meet the demand of the aircraft industry for low volume small parts welding and machining to meet an opportunity provided by his former employer. 2 employees in 1,200 sq ft. building
1982: Expanded into screw machining and CNC machining to meet local demand for low cost turned metal parts. 10 employees in expanded 2,500 sq ft building.
1984: Moved to our current location at 2500 N Curry Pike and added multiple spindle screw machining and centerless grinding. 20 employees in newly constructed 12,000 sq ft building. Griner becomes PMPA member (old NSMPA association).
1987: Per an automotive buyers request for a 50% price decrease, Griner expanded into Hydromat machining to meet the demand of the auto industry for high precision turned metal parts with competitive pricing. The initial application resulted in a 50% price decrease to customers and a 300% CPK value increase. 40 employees in 24,000 sq ft expanded building.
1992: Expanded into 16 station Hydromat machining to meet a specific customer requirement for antilock brake solenoid sensor bodies requiring 4,000,000 parts per year with zero defects.
1998: Developed additional production capability’s to meet customer needs for precision multiple spindle machining for automotive and light truck starter components. Processes included Euroturn Multi spindle, CNC OD grinding, Honing, Multiple diameter centerless grinding. Developed cold forming capability. Received Ford QS 9000 certification. Expanded plant to 54,000 sq ft.
2000/2001: Developed a plant in San Luis Potosi Mexico to service a specific customer’s requirements. 32,000 sq ft plant which was later sold.
2002/2003: Began development of CNC “work cell” departments and CNC low volume Hydromats as market trends suggested this was a modern alternative approach for high volume production.
2004: Added Mectron high-speed automatic inspection equipment. Material costs doubled due to steel surcharges.
2005: Expanded efforts into non-automotive markets due to industry norm at that time to not pay steel surcharges to suppliers. Added flow CNC waterjet deburring and machining equipment.
2006: Achieved TS16949 certification and expanded our customer base into additional industries by adhering to our “focused yet flexible” philosophy of manufacturing and customer service.
2008: The great recession! Griner finishes the year in the black thanks to our membership in OESA (Original Equipment Suppliers Association).
2012: Griner expands the CNC department by 10 machines due to an opportunity presented by a premier construction manufacturer.
2015: Griner invests in centerless form and cutoff grinding equipment to meet a solar market opportunity for 6,000,000 fuse bodies produced from Melanite tubing. The machine produces 7 complete pieces every 12 seconds.
2018: Griner expands hydromat department to meet the need for emission-related turbocharger and electric vehicle components.
