We're proud of Granger's reputation for quality in the mid-Michigan communities we serve. From our beginnings as a small hauling company to the Granger of today—which provides a full range of trash hauling and disposal services, landfill management, recycling and composting centers and landfill gas renewable energy production—we've maintained our commitment to serving you, our customers large and small.Granger is recognized nationally for its energy projects and as an organization that creates new approaches and improves on existing methods. Operating with a business plan that tailors local service to local needs, Granger has successfully integrated with communities in Michigan and throughout the United States. We employ more than 250 associates in various professional, service and technical positions. We recognize the importance of making long-term investments to fulfill the waste and energy needs of individuals, industry and communities now and in the future. Our story begins in the 1960s, when a resourceful construction company operated by the Granger brothers purchased its first truck and began hauling its own construction debris. Soon after, Granger began hauling trash for other construction companies and commercial customers. Over time, this family-owned and operated business based in Lansing, Michigan, evolved into a comprehensive environmental management service company. Throughout this progression, Granger has maintained its commitment to customer satisfaction and providing a local, honest choice for the community, as well as staying true to the values upon which the company was founded. Today, Granger provides a range of services for customers in need of sustainable waste collection, disposal, recycling and renewable energy production. With that initial truck purchase in 1966, Granger established the hauling services that would become the most recognizable component of the company. A leader in the service industry, Granger now offers solid waste and recyclable materials collection for industrial, commercial, apartment, construction and residential customers.Granger entered the landfill business in 1973. As owner and operator of two landfills in the greater Lansing area, Granger is committed to the responsible environmental disposal of municipal solid waste. Both the 180-acre Grand River Avenue Landfill located in Watertown Township and the 335-acre Wood Street Landfill located in Lansing Township and DeWitt Township are managed to ensure these principles are followed.Granger proved itself an environmental leader in 1985 when it became the first company in Michigan to make practical use of landfill gas for renewable energy production. Today, Granger Energy Services has 10 electric plants and five direct-use projects in Michigan and other parts of the country. Additional projects are currently under development. In 1989, Granger opened the Granger Recycling Center, which consists of a 110,000-square foot recycling area, including a 16,000-square foot processing center where paper grades, plastics and metals are prepared for the commodity markets. One of the founders of the company, Jerry Granger, perhaps expressed Granger's business philosophy best: "By showing faith through integrity, we can continue to differentiate ourselves." As Granger's history transitions into our future, we rely on forward-thinking innovation to move the company ahead, while continuing to rely on the core values that helped us get where we are today. At Granger, community is the heart of our business. We rely on the communities we serve just as they rely on us. That's why it's so important to us to forge positive relationships with our neighbors, and to give back whenever possible to those who have supported us through the years.Granger takes pride in our community participation. You'll see Granger trucks in local parades, meet our mascot Captain CurbySM at events, notice our containers at community clean up days, find us supporting communities by providing renewable energy, and work side by side with our associates on area committees.Civic, professional and school groups are invited to explore our landfill and recycling facilities, as well as our renewable energy projects, through tours, presentations and other educational opportunities. To learn more about Granger's community activities or request a tour or presentation, contact the community relations department at communityrelations@grangernet.com.
