Gold N Silver was started in 1969 by Dave Steckling Sr, who, at that time, was working as a guidance counselor for the school district of St. Cloud. Over the course of the next several years, he transitioned his passion and hobby into a full-time business, headquarted near the Stearns County courthouse in Saint Cloud. As the business flourished, it was eventually moved in 1987 to its present location at 1615 Division Street West, to afford sufficient space, easier public access, and higher visibility. Customer demand for products and services soon dictated the requirement for Mr. Steckling to travel to all parts of the United States, in search of best quality merchandise and prices. He became a staple fixture at most national coin shows over the course of the next thirty years, serving in both a buying and selling capacity. His travels have resulted in some of the highest quality coins and paper money being brought to Minnesota for sale to the public, from ancient roman artifacts to modern-day contemporary collectibles. Steckling has also worked as a professional coin grader at many national venues. He holds a bachelor's degree from St. John's University and masters degree from St. Cloud State University. He is a lifetime member of the American Numismatic Association (ANA), Minnesota Organization of Numismatists, and is one of only two coin dealers in Minnesota who belong to the invitation-only Professional Currency Dealers Association. He is the oldest full-time coin dealer in Minnesota

Rose Steckling is the wife of Dave Steckling Sr, and has been involved in the business on a part-time basis for approximately 35 years. She holds a nursing degree from the Minnesota Technical College in Anoka, and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for CentraCare & St. Cloud Hospital for 25 years. She has a passion for jewelry and provides stewardship and expertise to the jewelry purchasing and sales functions of our business. Rose also provides support for the purchasing and ordering of our retail supply inventory, and is responsible for in-store displays and merchandising

In 2011 Dave Steckling Jr. joined the business on a full-time basis, having retired from a 25 year career in the information technology industry. Steckling Jr. served in various IT capacities at Soo Line Railroad from 1988-2004, culminating in his role as Chief Information Officer. In 2004 he joined IBM Corporation, and worked as a business analyst, project portfolio manager, service delivery manager, and delivery project executive. His client accounts included one of the top three Wall Street brokerage firms and a multinational insurance company. He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and a degree in Applied Science & Technology from Thomas Edison State University. Steckling Jr. has served on the state of Minnesota Governor's Advisory Council on Technology for Persons With Disabilities, under Governor's Ventura and Pawlenty, and is a former board of directors member of Assistive Technology of Minnesota (ATMN). Mr. Steckling is a licensed precious metals broker, member of the American Numismatic Association (ANA), an ANA-certified coin grader, and also an ANA-certified counterfeit detection specialist, having completed the same formal counterfeit coin detection training as the United States Secret Service.  Gold N Silver Coin Company is the only full-service coin store in central Minnesota, and the only coin store in Minnesota north of the Minneapolis metropolitan area that is an authorized distributor of United States Mint products.
