About Company

Gold-N-Memories grew from a love that Gerda Schinkel has for jewellery. Thirty years ago Gerda and her husband Orville followed that love and a dream to open a family centered jewellery store serving south east Manitoba.  Originally located in a small kiosk within the Steinbach Shoppers Plaza, Gold-N-Memories sold chain by the inch, engagement rings and wedding bands and by January 1987 Gerda’s daughter Amanda joined the store, making it a multi generational business as well as a rarity in the jewellery field, a store owned and operated by women!  In 1990 it was quite evident that a larger space was needed and Gold-N-Memories opened a store location within the same mall. Gerda’s son Andrew had spent close to half of his life watching his mom build the store and was developing a strong interest in jewellery. His talent lay at the jewellers bench however and in 1991, at the age of 17, Andy joined the Gold-N-Memories staff while attended the Jewellery Arts program at Sturgeon Creek Collegiate in Winnipeg. Andy graduated with Honours in Jewellery Arts in 1995 and became the store’s full time goldsmith. If you have a custom piece from us Andy is likely the one who made it!  Over the years Gerda had noticed a real need for giftware items in Steinbach and in 1995 the store expanded again to include Oma’s Attic. Offering dishware, house décor and Bradford Collectibles Oma’s Attic offered choices to those looking for the perfect wedding or anniversary gift.  As Steinbach changed and grew, Gerda and Amanda felt that the store needed to as well and in September of 2002 Gold-N-Memories moved into the Clearsping Centre. Oma’s Attic was retired and the main focus of the store returned to providing the south east with high quality diamonds and gold without needing to make a trip to the city

2011 was a year of big change. Amanda Lanteigne, along with her husband Paul and her brother Andy Schinkel (our goldsmith), purchased the store shares from Gerda and Orville. As the years go by Gold-N-Memories continues to have a strong sense of family, adding Lexi Lanteigne to the staff in 2011. As she approaches her fifth year at Gold-N-Memories Lexi has plans to add Gemology and Business Studies to her resume. September 2016 will bring more growth as Nick Lanteigne joins his parents, uncle and sister in the store, learning the trade and ensuring that Gold-N-Memories keeps its family and community focus.  Today the store has eleven staff members and we are all so proud and happy to be wor king and learning here. As we celebrate 30 years of serving the jewellery needs of the South East we want to thank all of you. Our friends. Our clients. Our wonderful families. Gold-N-Memories exists today, not just because of the hard work and dedication of our founders and our staff, but also because of your loyalty, your support and your trust in us. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You are so very much appreciated!!
