Don Gilbert designed, manufactured and installed the first insect light trap, with an enclosed catch tray, in a soup plant, in 1967. Over the next two decades, he pioneered the industrial use of professional flytraps. Don's name became so prevalent in America's food plants and pharmaceutical laboratories that Gilbert was granted a registered trademark.
Don's son, David, succeeded his father as president in 1993, renaming the number one industrial insect light trap (for three decades), "The Don". Shortly thereafter, Gilbert® was sued by a giant corporation for patent infringement. David's years of research, at his father's side, paid off when he was able to design around the giant's patent, producing the superior trap (at left). Now, Gilbert® intends to lead the industry away from gimmicks toward professionalism, to establish the science of Insect Light Traps.
Sure the Gilbert Wall-Sconce Flytrap will out-catch previous wall-sconce flytraps. Sure, it will create an elegant ambience while secretly providing 24-hour, non-stop, silent capture of filthy, disgusting flies. And, yes, with one finger, Flying Venus' magnetic face swings up for easy glueboard replacement.
However, the most important flytrap in an establishment is the big one placed down low, in the back room, between the dumpster and the kitchen.
