Geweniger Recycling GmbH was founded in 1989 by Mr. Rainer Geweniger on the premises of the briquette factory in Meuselwitz. With an initial stock of 3 people, which was increased to 6 by 1992, the company operated a local scrap metal and container service. The company experienced an upswing with the contractually agreed disposal of MIBRAG's lignite opencast mines. From 1993/94 onwards, it was primarily electric locomotives and wagons, and later large devices, that were dismantled. From 1996 the large devices were pre-dismantled with a new blasting technology and then cut to type. Dismantling and selling as well as demolition and scrapping of power plants or other industrial plants of all sizes is an important business area of the company today.
In 1996 the Altenburg site was acquired by Geweniger Recycling GmbH. Under the management of Mr. R. Geweniger, the company with the camps in Meuselwitz and Altenburg is developing into a high-performance operation in the region whose main tasks, in addition to supplying regional foundries and steelworks, are to supply the shears and the condenser in Espenhain. Today the company employs 47 people.
