Garbiker is a public company 100% belonging to the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and attached to the Department of Sustainability and Natural Environment, which began in 1986. It is directed by a Board of Directors chaired by the Provincial Deputy for Sustainability and Natural Environment, who delegates its management to a Managing Director.

Garbiker was born with the desire to become an essential instrument to radically change the management of urban waste generated in Bizkaia, offering a guarantee of management and transparency in the face of private initiatives.

Its objectives and strategy comply with the guidelines issued by the different Comprehensive MSW Management Plans of the Historical Territory of Bizkaia (1997-2001), (2001-2007) and (2005-2016), constituting today, prevention, reuse and recycling the fundamental tasks of the company.

Garbiker carries out extensive activity, which is proven through significant investments in technology and infrastructures spread throughout the historic territory of Bizkaia, which can be verified with the implementation of highly efficient and high-environmental performance models.

All our activity is based on the principles of the 6 Rs:

REDUCE: Promoting the efficient use of resources (energy, water ...) and responsible consumption by optimizing and reducing it.

REUSE: Get the most out of products with minimal impact on the environment by reusing them.

RECYCLE: Obtaining raw materials from waste, introducing them back into the production cycle.

RECOVER: Use of waste in a process other than the one that generates it, for example in power generation.

RE-EDUCATE: Promote and sensitize citizens to the importance of recycling by informing and participating in all processes.

REINSERT: Collaborate with entities of the 4th sector and with joint initiatives to seek the labor insertion of people in disadvantaged situations
