Follo Ren is an inter-municipal waste management company owned by the municipalities of Frogn, Nesodden, Nordre Follo and Ås in Akershus. Follo Ren was established on 1 January 1995, and was organized as an inter-municipal company (IKS) on 1 January 2004.
Follo Ren is responsible for the collection, transport and treatment of waste that falls within the municipal area of ​​responsibility in force at any given time in accordance with the Pollution Control Act, and supplementary provisions issued by central pollution authorities.
Follo Ren is run according to the cost principle. This means that the company's services are financed through fees from the inhabitants. The rule is that the fees from the inhabitants in total can not exceed what it costs to provide the service. This means that self-sufficiency sets an upper limit for what the municipalities can demand in fees.
Every month, Follo Ren empties approx. 60,550 containers and joint solutions at approx. 46,500 subscribers (approx. 114,000 inhabitants), which annually amounts to approx. 1.2 million empties.
Follo Ren is responsible for 126 environmental points for glass and metal packaging and textiles, distributed among the five owner municipalities.
Follo Ren operates three recycling stations. The three recycling stations receive a total of approx. 180,000 visitors in one year.
In total, Follo Ren collects and processes approx. 57,000 tons of waste every year. The annual turnover is 106 MNOK.
