About Evergreen Gas
Evergreen Gas is a British company, built on over 40 years’ experience in the anaerobic digestion industry.
We were founded in 2011 by Michael Chesshire with the concept of developing modular, small-scale biogas plants that were simple, robust and safe.
Following the official launch in February 2012, we endeavoured to work with each individual client to develop the optimum economic solution to each scenario, using a proven and fundamental understanding of the AD process.
Innovative AD solutions
Since that time, we have developed a strong technical excellence division which continues to introduce new products and services to the market, such as Biogas for Transport and Optimisation and Enhancement.
The small-scale AD specialists
We now have 15 live on-farm anaerobic digestion projects across the UK, and a growing team of 40 with representatives based in Ludlow, Northamptonshire and Glasgow.
Following a major investment in the company in May 2014, we have realigned our goals to develop the avenues for new products and services in wider markets and further promote the company’s ability to offer value-engineered, safe and robust AD related products to the market.
Food Waste AD
Small-scale food waste digestion
Government policy is making a clear steer towards community AD, and Evergreen Gas is responding to this by launching research into small-scale food waste anaerobic digestion.
Historically, the focus of the food waste AD sector has been on large digesters, long haulage distances and substantial contracts with food waste suppliers. Throughout this period there has been disconnect between the source of the food waste and how it is collected.
Community AD
With support of funding from the Green Bridge scheme, Evergreen Gas is trialling the small-scale digestion of food waste by converting our R&D plant BMAD into an approved digester, running on left-overs from local pubs and restaurants.
The collections will be made in a vehicle that runs on biomethane produced from the process.
Food waste research
Research suggests that 100kg of food waste per household is generated on an annual basis. This means that 75 miles in a biomethane collection vehicle could be generated by one household alone over the course of a year.
This project will be pivotal into the development of community AD and will study the viability of introducing this into rural communities. Through our research we will investigate opportunities for working with businesses, farmers and local authorities and to see community AD become a realistic opportunity for the UK biogas market.
Evergreen Gas offers a range of anaerobic digesters with electrical outputs from 50kW to 250kW for farms and rural communities. Within this range, each digester is sized to accommodate a variety of 'low strength', 'medium strength' and 'high strength' feedstocks.
Our partially-buried digester design keeps operational costs to a minimum and means that the AD plant has a low visual impact on the surrounding landscape.
We work with the manures, slurries and crops that are already available on your farm - nothing more. Simply tell us what you have to put in, and we will tell you what you are likely to get out.
We can help you to diversify your revenue stream and achieve a greater degree of energy self-sufficiency in terms of heat, power and potentially vehicle fuel.
Even a small Evergreen Gas AD plant can deliver a good return on capital.
Using our in-house economic model, developed using over 40 years’ of AD experience, we are able to work with each individual client to develop the optimum economic solution for the scenario.
