Our History

Empire was founded in 1985 by Jim Davison in partnership with Talley Industries, a domestic stainless steel bar mill. Our mission was to offer excellent quality and service to warehouse quantity buyers of stainless steel bar who required the quality of domestic stock. Our trademarked product, Amerimelt®, is an outgrowth of that vision.

In 1988, Talley chose to refocus their efforts away from local distribution. Jim continued on, acquiring Talley's interests. The focus on free machining domestic stainless steel remained, with former partners now trusted suppliers.

The early '90's saw Empire growing as a company, expanding its stainless product line by adding stainless pipe and tubing.

In the late '90's a strong emphasis was put on centerless ground stainless steel bar, culminating in the United States Patent Office awarding Empire another trademark, this time for PlusZero®, ground and polished stainless steel shafting. In 1997 Matt Shaw joined Empire as Vice President bringing with him 15 years of stainless steel and business management experience.

The last decade saw the addition of a complete line of stainless structural products. Empire rounded out it's product line with the addition of stainless channels, stainless beams, stainless angles and flats.

Today, Jim Davison and Matt Shaw continue to focus on what made Empire successful. Service, quality, and treating the most important part of our business, our customers, with respect.
