Emerald Performance Materials, LLC produces and markets technologically advanced specialty chemicals for a broad range of food and industrial applications.  Its products play a variety of roles in the products that are consumed and used every day, enabling them to last longer, look, smell, taste or perform better. Emerald products are used in aerospace, food, beverages, cosmetics, toothpaste, household products, paint, tires, automobiles, sports gear and many other applications.  Headquartered in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Emerald has eight operations and approximately 750 employees.

Emerald Performance Materials is a mid-sized specialty chemical company. We were formed on May 1, 2006, as an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners, following the divesture of certain businesses from Lubrizol. After achieving tremendous growth and completing four acquisitions, Emerald was purchased by private equity firm American Securities LLC on August 1, 2014.

ACQUISITIONS

Since the formation of Emerald, the company has continued to grow, nearly doubling in size through organic growth and acquisitions. We have made four acquisitions: CVC Specialty Chemicals, the carbon black dispersion product line of Wolstenholme International, the line of fluff pulp debonders from AkzoNobel, and DSM Special Products, including its operation in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. These companies were great strategic acquisitions for Emerald's existing businesses, complementing or extending our current product offerings and expanding our geographic reach. Emerald has also invested in adding capacity to our existing assets, with investments being made in many of our product lines.

HISTORY

While the company name is relatively new, our businesses have a long history in the products and markets we serve, dating back to 1910, based on the foundation of well-respected predecessor companies such as BF Goodrich, Lubrizol and DSM.  Well-known brands include Goodrite® Resin-D, Hilton Davis® colorants, FOAM BLAST® defoamers, Freerez® resins, Kalama™ and PUROX® brands, K-FLEX® plasticizers and Hypro™ RLP & Nychem™ Specialty emulsions. We continue to invest in new product development and have expanded our R&D capabilities to do so. We have added over 50 new products to our portfolio, most of which are food grade or — in the case of industrial products — 0-VOC or 100% solids materials that can be used in low VOC formulations.

Emerald's business groups are decentralized, each providing specialized customer service and technical support to its customers. Each business works closely with their manufacturing operations to assure operational excellence. Their distribution network supplies customer needs world-wide. We manufacture products at 8 ISO or GMA-SAFE certified manufacturing facilities in the United States, Europe and South America. Certain processes also have HACCP or SQF certification and are compliant to c-GMP standards. We have customer and technical service offices in Europe, Hong Kong, and Brazil. In addition, sites manufacturing food ingredients and processing aids have product offerings with additional certifications through FDA, US Pharmacopeia, Food Chemicals Codex, European Council, Organic (OMRI), HAACP, Kosher, Haalal and others.

As a manufacturer of additives and processing aids for food, as well as for rubber, coatings and other industrial uses, Emerald places its first priority on safety and quality. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and see this as a key company responsibility as a member of the greater communities where we work, operate and live. Emissions from our operations have been reduced by over 50% since the formation of Emerald, and HS&E matters continue to be a top priority for the company.
