Elly Nickels GmbH & Co. KG is a medium-sized company that has been operating successfully since 1951 with commitment and experience in the sectors of secondary raw material trading, local freight transport, demolition and container service.
The company's history began with the small trader who drove through the streets in small trucks and collected old iron, metals, paper and rags. From a small business with ever larger transport units, the company developed into a specialized provider of services in the areas of demolition and secondary raw materials trading.
In order to meet the demanding tasks of the service for the customer and on the other hand the waste management in today's time, extensive investments have been made since the beginning of 1990 in the areas of vehicle fleet, mobile equipment in the area of demolition and in the administration area of IT.
The current state of the art was thus achieved in all operational areas. With this equipment and appropriately qualified, competent staff, it has been possible to successfully carry out numerous large orders.
Today, Elly Nickels GmbH & Co. KG is a reliable partner for a large number of business partners in industry, with private and public clients, small and medium-sized businesses, specialized recyclers and with private end customers.
Our company history
We still bear the name of our company founder Elly Nickels today, and for good reason. Because she shaped the company from the beginning with her incomparable manner and her unique business acumen. A personality that you won't soon forget.
The First Years
The company was founded in 1950 in the Rendsburg "watch block". The focus was initially on scrap trading. The resolute and witty Elly Nickels quickly made a name for herself - and put the business on the road to success. Soon they needed more space and built a living space on Sundewitter Weg and commercial building ... of course only with building material that came from demolitions. So it was not surprising that the construction was slow, because: no demolition material - no construction progress ... Elly Nickels only had to buy the cement - and paid for it with bundles of money which she took out of her apron pocket.
The employees who lived in the house on Sundewitter Weg received their wages on a weekly basis. Depending on the order situation, there was sometimes more, sometimes less money every Friday - straight from the boss's hands. In 1965 that was an average of DM 180. Vacation was a foreign word, and income was all the more popular. Anyone who topped their wages by cutting firewood (of course with scrap shears ...) received 10 DM and lunch from Elly.
The trade in building materials from demolitions increased more and more and became the mainstay of the company. The first rope excavator soon replaced the tearing method with hammer and pure muscle power that had been common up to now.
The Next Generations
After the death of Elly Nickels, the son, Gerd Delling, continued to run the company and above all expanded the local freight transport. Asphalt was transported for VAM, Split for SAW and sand-lime bricks for Schreiber all over the country. At the same time, the demolition business was booming: In Eckernförde, for example, the freight yard, the locomotive shed, two schools and numerous smokehouses were razed to the ground. The demolition of the old chimneys was especially adventurous: ring-shaped, from top to bottom and piece by piece with a hammer ... by hand, of course!
The construction boom continued, in Rendsburg the water tower, the Carlshütte, the Marienkirche and a large part of Neuwerk were demolished. In the 1970s, container service became another mainstay of Elly Nickels.
In the absence of a successor, Ehrich took over Elly Nickels in 1988. Horst Willi Gripp (with Elly Nickels since 1965) and Otto Krüger (with Ehrich since 1968) jointly managed the company with the core business of demolition for the next 20 years. In 2008 the company moved from Sundewitter Weg to Kieler Str. 171 on the premises of the Ehrich company. From 2008 to 2013, the company Metoval, founded especially for this purpose, processed slag from waste incineration.
Due to many new laws and knowledge about built-in pollutants (e.g. asbestos), the business, which up until now has been rather casual, with the demolition from year to year, has become more and more a complex administrative and managerial task that requires a high level of specialist knowledge. Pollutant assessments and pollutant remediation represent an important source of income for Elly Nickels today. A lot of experience and constant training ensure that every Elly Nickels demolition worker is highly qualified.
The company continues to grow and continuously invests in machines and vehicles in order to always be up to date. In 2019 the new warehouse at the location at Kieler Straße 171 was completed. And we are sure: the success will continue!
