EEC was born in 1992 when EGI purchased the assets of the bankrupt Valley-Vulcan Mold plant on the eve of its bankruptcy liquidation. EECs major product are ingot molds used by specialty steel and alloy producers for teeming ingots, including EEC’s sister division, Ellwood Quality Steels, which sources all of its ingot molds from EEC. In 2009 EEC invested $4 million in a new fume collection bag house for the melt shop, to comply with new federal air quality standards.Ellwood Engineered Castings located in Hubbard, Ohio, produces gray iron castings up to 160 tons and ductile iron castings up to 60 tons in weight. Our melt shop consists of three, 55 ton coreless induction furnaces, efficiently produces accurate iron chemistries to customer specification.Ellwood Engineered Castings located in Hubbard, Ohio, produces the largest iron castings available in North America; gray iron castings up to 160 tons in weight and ductile iron castings up to 60 tons in weight. Our melt shop consists of three, 55 ton coreless induction furnaces, efficiently producing accurate iron chemistries to customer specifications.
Ellwood Engineered Castings is a gray and ductile iron foundry that specializes in producing a wide range of castings, ranging from 1 to 160 tons. Its wide range of capabilities, ability to work within short lead times, and reliable delivery has made it the largest foundry of its type in North America.EEC is the largest supplier of Ingot molds in North America. These products include consumable electrode molds, forging molds and slab molds. We also produce auxiliary products: stools, sprue plates, center runners, hot top castings and slag pots.

Engineering
EEC’s engineers use licensed proprietary software to model the solidification. This permits them to optimize their design of the mold so that the molten iron fills the mold cavity completely and solidifies without porosity. Engineering begins with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), an EEC practice used to ensure quality, accuracy and consistency in every facet of our operation. Castings are designed with product performance in mind and modeled to exacting specifications using state of the art CAD (SolidWorks) and Solidification Modeling (MagmaSoft & ProCAST).MagmaSoft and ProCAST aid in gating/riser design and location as well as predict iron solidification. It is especially important to run on first pieces to ensure the highest probability of success on the first run and qualification for future production. The newest addition to Engineering is the Metronor, a portable Coordinate-measuring machine (CMM) used for improved accuracy and efficiency in dimensional analysis and inspection. Our Pattern Shop is equipped with a HAAS CNC Routing Machine to assure production of high quality patterns.
Quality
When it comes to quality, it is tough to beat EEC. We have two Six Sigma Black Belts on staff utilizing their skills and advanced problem solving techniques. Our staff is trained to work on tight Standard Operating Procedures to minimize variance and eliminate defects. We have a state of the art testing lab with the following test equipment:
