Story
Since 1943
In 1943, the AG for metal recycling was set up in Zurich Altstetten due to an export ban on scrap. Dr. Hermann Weidenmann founded the first and so far only detinning plant in Switzerland.
Relocation to Oberrüti
In 1968 the new factory building was built in Oberrüti. From 1969 production was relocated to Oberrüti and Elektrozinn AG was founded.
Sale to the Netherlands
In 1985 Elektrozinn AG was sold to Hochovens = (Royal Dutch Blast Furnaces), a Dutch steelworks founded in 1918.
Foundation of Ferro Recycling
In 1987, Ferro Recycling was founded together with other leading Swiss companies in recycling and trading.
Step 5
In 1998 the changeover from pure new waste detinning to detinning of secondary tin cans took place. Even then, the great potential of the circular economy was recognized.
In 1999 the company was returned to Swiss ownership on the initiative of Mr. Peter Suhner, an entrepreneur active in the metal trade.
New management
In 2005 there was a change in the management. The new managing director successfully relied on sustainable management in order to secure jobs in the long term.
Who are we?
Elektrozinn AG was founded in 1969. In the same year as the first man set foot on the moon, we promised our suppliers to stand up for the environment so that humanity can continue to provide unique services in the future. With success! The proportion of recycled tin and iron is higher than ever before. In doing so, we are making a significant contribution to the environment and the quality of life for mankind.
