History
At its meeting on April 17, 2002, the district council of the Löbau-Zittau district decided to found a mixed-economy company in the form of a GmbH on January 1, 2004. A private co-partner, to whom 49% of the shares will be transferred, was sought as part of a Europe-wide tendering process. With the procedure, the services to be provided by the new company were put out to tender at the same time.
In its meeting on June 25, 2003, the district council of the district of Löbau-Zittau decided on the award of the tendered establishment of the company and the commissioning of disposal services.
The notarial establishment of the disposal company Löbau-Zittau mbH, called EGLZ mbH for short, took place on July 28, 2003.
Business operations began on January 1, 2004.
In the course of restructuring in the group of companies, the private co-partner sold his shares.
EGLZ mbH has been a 100% municipal company since October 18, 2006.
With the district reform, the EGLZ mbH has received the public waste disposal of the city of Görlitz from the new district of Görlitz from 01.01.2009 in the so-called in-house business.
The district reform also contributed to standardizing waste management in the new district. From 01/01/2013, the waste management company in the district administration took over all activities in connection with waste management, including public relations.
From 01/01/2014, a new waste disposal contract was signed between the district of Görlitz and EGLZ mbH, which among other things also provides for the operation of three recycling centers from this point in time. EGLZ mbH operates two recycling centers in the waste disposal area: at the company headquarters in Lawalde and in the city of Zittau. In the city of Görlitz, SAPOS gGmbH operates the recycling center on behalf of EGLZ mbH.
In November 2014, EGLZ mbH put a recycling facility for dismantling electrical and electronic equipment into operation at its headquarters in Lawalde. In cooperation with the Diakoniewerk Oberlausitz eV, eight people with disabilities have found a job on the primary labor market in this facility. In order to be able to operate the recycling system as an initial treatment system in accordance with the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG), certification based on the Ordinance on Waste Management Companies (EfbV) was necessary. The operation of the plant was stopped on December 31, 2019.
As a further service, EGLZ mbH has been offering the return of old batteries at its headquarters in Lawalde since July 1st, 2015. The collection point is operated as a qualified collection point of the common collection system "batteries".
