EDZ – Environmental Consulting, Lda. was founded in September of 2007 in response to the growing need in Portugal for experienced consulting in the investigation and management of contaminated land and other environmental liabilities. The company counts on experience gained over more than 25 years in Europe and the USA, including participation in several of the largest and most significant Portuguese projects involving the investigation and requalification of industrial land, namely Expo’98, Lisnave Shipyard (Almada), Quimiparque Chemical Complex (Barreiro) and Siderurgia Nacional Steel Complex (Seixal). The experience gained from these and many other  projects enables us to offer clients a variety of services ranging from the planning and execution of  preliminary studies (Phase I) and detailed site investigations (Phase II), to the preparation of tender documents, oversight of field activities, peer review of reports, long-term monitoring, and the identification and implementation of remedial solutions. 

SERVICES

Environmental Due Diligence Studies (Phase I and Phase II) – evaluation of potential environmental liabilities associated with properties or organizations, using internationally recognized methodologies developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).
Contaminated Land Studies – detailed examination of derelict or degraded sites (“Brownfields”), including risk assessment, often within the context of larger urban redevelopment projects, and in collaboration with land planners.
Determination of Environmental Baseline Conditions and Identification of Environmental Risk Scenarios – estimates of repair costs; support for organizations covered under, or potentially affected by, the Environmental Liability Directive (2004/35/CE), namely in the establishment of financial guarantees (ex: Environmental Liability Insurance Policies).
Preparation of Baseline Reports on Soil and Groundwater Quality - as required by the Industrial Emissions Directive (2010/75/EU).
Environmental Auditing – systematic and documented verification, obtaining evidence and evaluating in an objective way the environmental compliance of organizations against established criteria.
Bioremediation – in partnership with soil experts, involving the treatment of petroleum contaminated soils with the objective of producing a reusable end product, and avoiding the landfilling of a valuable natural resource.
Expert Review – coordination of teams of selected experts for the independent evaluation of complex environmental studies.
Technical Assistance and Project Oversight – preparation of tender documents for public and private entities, and oversight of field and other activities associated with contaminated land studies and remediation projects.
