EBS Concept GmbH has been sorting residues since May 2011 and using them to produce alternative fuels. The medium and high calorific (high calorific value) fuels are then used directly at the site, in the state-of-the-art combined heat and power plant (commissioned in 10/2009) by Steinbeis Energie GmbH. Compared to the combustion of fossil fuels, energetic waste recycling significantly reduces the CO 2 emissions generated during combustion . Steinbeis was able to reduce CO 2 emissions specifically by 60% from 1990 to 2010 and conserves non-renewable resources.
EBS Concept GmbH is part of the sustainable value chain of the pioneering factory model of Steinbeis Papier GmbH , Steinbeis Energie GmbH and AP Concept GmbH & Co. KG on the industrial area of Stadtstraße 20 in Glückstadt.
With its overall concept, Steinbeis has set an example in the industry. The company has one of the most modern integrated factories in the European recycled paper industry. Ecologically designed, highly economical and leading the way in waste paper processing, recycling technologies, eco-product quality and environmental balance.
Since the commissioning of the sorting plant in May 2011, EBS Concept GmbH has been one of the most important alternative fuel suppliers for the new Steinbeis energy cogeneration power plant with the quantities from the processing.
Short delivery routes and local energy recovery options for businesses and municipalities improve the ecological balance of the sorting:
• Waste paper at AP Concept GmbH & Co. KG,
• Substitute fuels at EBS Concept GmbH,
• of energy generation at Steinbeis Energie GmbH and
the production of recycled paper at Steinbeis Papier GmbH.

Our young story
Price stability thanks to new waste channels. Signing of the contract at the WZV
From 2016, EBS-Concept from Glückstadt, EEW Helmstedt with the waste incineration plant in Stapelfeld and the MBA Neumünster will be the new partners of the WZV for the residual waste disposal in the district of Segeberg. The official contract signing will take place in a small, festive round on Tuesday.
Jens Kretschmer shows himself without any restrictions, completely satisfied. "Despite exemplary waste separation by our customers, more than 45,000 tons of residual waste are generated annually in the Segeberg district (WZV plus the area of the city of Norderstedt)," explains the head of the association of the Weg-Zweckverband. For this residual waste as well, the highest quality and sustainable treatment or disposal is sought. With the expiry of the previous waste disposal contracts at the end of this year, there was now the opportunity to break new ground. As part of a Europe-wide invitation to tender, the WZV has therefore divided the total quantity into three equally large pieces, of which the new contractual partners present today were able to secure a partial amount with their respective offers.
"We deliberately kept the tender for the treatment of our residual waste open to the process," said Torsten Höppner, head of waste management at the WZV, "we did not specify a specific disposal method." All potential providers were able to apply to the WZV with every conceivable treatment technique. The offers were then evaluated using an ecological and economic evaluation matrix. In addition to the transport distance, the environmental impact in the form of the carbon dioxide emissions of each individual applicant and his system technology was queried and evaluated as a key yardstick.
"We are pleased," said Jens Kretschmer, "that at the end of the procedure only applicants with systems in Schleswig-Holstein could prevail". The residual waste from the district of Segeberg will in future be mechanically and biologically stabilized, making the most of the recoverable parts that can still be used, processed into alternative fuel or used directly in a high-quality plant to generate heat and electricity.
The future contractual partners of the WZV were also pleased that they were able to prevail in the competition with their high-quality systems. You all know the WZV from the cooperation in other areas as a competent and reliable disposal company and look forward to further cooperation in the disposal of residual waste. The contracts signed today have a minimum term of 7 years.
From January 1st, 2016, the waste of the Segeberg district is now going its new ways. "Although the current traffic situation around us is not exactly favorable at the moment, our preparations are almost complete," says Torsten Höppner. The WZV will continue to be responsible for transporting the waste to the disposal facilities and is prepared accordingly with its logistics team.
At the end of the event, Association President Kretschmer had another important message for his customers. In addition to the result of the ecologically very high-quality disposal of the residual waste, there is also a not inconsiderable economic advantage for the WZV. Despite some significant price increases in other areas, the WZV can continue to keep its waste tariffs constant through the new contracts next year.
