COMPANY OVERVIEW
From the beginning with a single facility in Manchester, KY, Eastern Kentucky Recycling has grown in less than eight years to a total of four full service scrap metal recycling centers.
We believe the success of our business is attributed to our faith in God, and that He guides us in our decisions, knowing that living for Him, doing for others, along with hard work and perseverance allows Him to bless us as individuals and as a business.
Our business is dedicated first to providing an opportunity for employees to better themselves, and secondly for providing honest, friendly, and efficient service to our customers.
Our goal is that our employees and customers both prosper. We put a large portion of earnings back into the business, upgrading equipment, and adding qualified and dedicated employees to our staff.
Our commitment to our customers is simple: fast, friendly service, competitive pricing, and accurate weights. Honesty is our policy.
HISTORY
In January of 2011, Jeff King opened his fourth scrap metal recycling facility at 345 Main Street in Crab Orchard next to the Dollar General Store. His other three yards are in Junction City, Manchester, and Williamsburg.
Jeff, has worked in the scrap metal business since he began helping his father, Cecil King, when he was 12 years old. "I am extremely grateful to my father. I guess you could say most of what I know I learned from my father. I didn't always agree with him while I was working for him, but when I opened my own yards and had to be responsible for the whole operation myself I learned that he usually had good reasons for what he did."
Jeff worked for years at the original yard in Crab Orchard and then split his time between Crab Orchard and Junction City after his father began operating a facility there. Cecil eventually closed the original yard in Crab Orchard, and when Cecil wanted to retire Jeff bought the Junction City location from him.
When asked the secret of his success Jeff says it didn't come easily or quickly. He says he has 33 years of hands-on experience. Jeff says "There's nothing in the operation I haven't done myself, whether it’s operating cranes, loaders, forklifts, bobcats, balers, shears, and cutting torches, in addition to being a mechanic and truck driver and buying and selling scrap." King also said "We try to hire and keep good people. Most of my employees have been around for a while and I feel they are a huge part of our success."
When he took the leap and opened his first yard in Manchester in 2005, Jeff felt that he had enough experience and had seen the markets go up and down, and felt like he could make a go of it if he struck out on his own.
