Over the past thirty-two years, Durable Steel Structures has placed over 35,000 yards of concrete and erected over 18,000,000 pounds of steel in the Metro-Baltimore/ Washington DC corridor. This work has been accomplished in both new and existing sites, and extensively within industrial sites with ongoing operations.
Areas of concrete specialization include in-house design capability, construction of containment slabs, isolated equipment slabs, foundation underpinning, restoration, specialty coatings, and retaining walls.
Steel expertise includes engineering analysis and evaluation and replacement of individual failed structure members through total structure rebuilding, often accomplished while plant operations continue. We have a Maryland Certified structural engineer on call at all times.
As a pre-engineered building systems specialist, we have designed and constructed over 900 projects from coast to coast, and have performed extensive retrofitting of existing structures. Frequent projects include reroofing and residing of existing structures, many in abnormal environments requiring and utilizing advance corrosion resistive specialty materials. Please visit our photo gallery to see the many types of buildings we are capable of providing.
Other capabilities include complete excavating services, equipment, rigging, project design and consulting within our specialized areas.
Our full time staff of dedicated personnel has over 100 combined years of experience with the pre-engineered metal building industry. We are committed to providing our customers all the options available to construct the metal building that best suits their needs architecturally, functionally, and financially.
DSS was awarded the Metal Building Contractors and Erectors Association Building of the Year Award 2001 for two of our projects: Dundalk Marine Terminal Port Administration, and Meyer Seed Warehouse.
Company History
In 1977 George Dausch IV and his brother, Glenn Dausch realized the potential for pre-engineered metal buildings in the Mid-Atlantic region. With both brothers having experience in construction with wood framed “pole barn” type structures, Durable Steel Structures was born. They began as a small company with five field employees and one company truck. Initially constructing mainly agricultural buildings and metal building “box” warehouses.
Since those early days DSS has grown not only in size, but also in ability. We now employ four full-time field crews who have the metal building expertise to do it all. We have constructed many types of buildings from churches, gymnasiums, commercial/industrial warehouse facilities, private residence storage buildings, car dealerships, and heavy equipment buildings.
Over the course of the last 25 years we have become the leading metal building contractor in the Baltimore Metro / Washington DC corridor. Our sales staff has over 100 years of combined pre-engineered metal building experience, and our field crews are among the best.
We network with a hand-selected group of MBMA and AISC certified metal building manufacturers which enables us to provide our customers with the best pricing and product. We have a Maryland certified engineer on call for all of our projects, and are able to provide customers a total turnkey facility. With our own crews we can construct your project from the “ground up”.
