Droemont - four generations of Cologne waste management history
In 1887 an aunt of Wilhelm Droemont's wife bequeathed a shop for iron, rags, paper, cord and bones at the Small Greek Market in Cologne. Quite unexpectedly, a middle-class journalist family turned into an entrepreneurial household overnight.
Since the stronghold of the German paper industry at that time was in the Düren and Jülich areas, the young company quickly specialized in the new and sought-after raw material recovered paper . With success - and soon the paper industry is relying on the Droemont family.
As a result, the demand quickly exceeded the structural acceptance capacities of the company's headquarters on the small Greek market. At the same time, the aim was to further increase the quality and to be able to adapt it to customer requirements, and a sorting facility was opened in Jülich at the turn of the century . From there it was delivered directly to the pan mill via wagon.
After the end of the war in May 1945, a new location was built at Oskar-Jäger-Strasse 52 . From there, the third generation continued to run the company as a waste paper wholesaler.
Originally still being supplied with bale goods by small traders, both the demand and the volume of recovered paper changed in good time and brought about a steady expansion in the collection logistics and in the pressing capacities.
On the one hand, the first roll-off container for collecting waste paper was set up in Cologne in 1969 and, on the other hand, the first fully automatic baling press with a feed belt went into operation at that time in order to be able to meet the new challenges of the market.
At the end of the 1980s, when the handover to the fourth generation was already certain, Wilhelm Droemont took heart again at the age of 66 and built a future-oriented location on the Cologne city limits for his son Louis . This has now as the only remaining managing partner since 01.08.1991 the company on location Brauweiler from a mono structured paper business to a disposal companies complete expanded, but who never forgot his roots, the paper trade.
It was thus possible to meet the modern requirements of the market with the flexibility of a medium-sized company and to assert itself regionally in a waste disposal world characterized by large corporations.
