In 1977, Ken Hamel opened a business based on excellence. His involvement inken the metals industry started back in 1962. As both an owner and manager, he became frustrated with the levels of service he found. He decided to create a business where he could provide outstanding customer service, superior quality control, timely shipping and cost efficient products. With more than 100 years of combined experience, the Diversified Metals team, comprised of well-trained, knowledgeable individuals, works together in achieving service with integrity, reliability and determination in assuring your ultimate satisfaction. Our personnel will provide the level of professional assistance you require and expect. “Through our understanding of your Company’s needs for the future, we are able to envision our own. It is this vision, consistent with the evolution of industry, which ensures your confidence in Diversified Metals’ ability to satisfy the challenges tomorrow will bring,” is our company motto. As a domestic and international specialty metals distributor, our inventory includes, but is not limited to, Aluminum Bronze, Copper Bus Bar, Copper Nickel, Manganese Bronze, Naval Brass, Nickel Based Alloys, High Strength Alloys, Phosphor Bronze, Silicon Bronze, Silicon Iron Bronze, HY80 & HY100 Hot Rolled Steels, and Stainless Steels. We are able to provide quality material due in part to relationships with our mill affiliates, which have developed over the past 47 years. Additionally, we can accommodate our customers by offering such services as saw cutting, grinding, CNC turning, CNC milling, straightening and gun drilling. Over the years Diversified Metals has established credibility with a customer base comprised of a broad range of end users including bearing manufacturers, medical companies, metal service centers, as well as the aerospace, architectural, automotive, cosmetic, marine and naval, medical, mining and construction, national defense, oil refining, petrochemical, power and distribution, pump and valve, shipbuilding companies, and small arms industries throughout the country.
Our customers stretch from Maine to California with additional customers overseas; such customers as Electric Boat Corporation, DuPont, Newport News Shipbuilding, Pratt & Whitney, General Electric, Kearfott Guidance and Navigation, SKF, Marotta Scientific Controls, Defense Supply Center, Naval Inventory Control Point, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Moog Flo-Tork Inc. and Curtis-Wright Flow Control. DMI has adopted and maintained some of the most rigorous quality control discipline and standards within the industry. Our Quality System satisfies all requirements of MIL-I-45208, ISO 9001-2008 and Level One/SubmarineSafe Crucial Shipboard Application. This discipline includes access to, and understanding of, a large library of industry and customer specifications, which consist of ASTM, ASME, SAE AMS, Military specifications, and customers’ specifications such as Electric Boat and General Electric. Quality Control is involved in the processing of all customer purchase orders and all sales orders to ensure accuracy in all aspects.
Because the end use of much of the material which DMI supplies is Level One/SubmarineSafe, the strict discipline required when reviewing the certifications supplied by the mills is a high priority. Quality Control is also involved in the final acceptance and release of material to customers. Diversified Metals quality personnel have been Source Delegate Inspectors for Electric Boat and Huntington Ignalls-Newport News Shipbuilding for many years. We have also been LCS (Laboratory Control at Source) for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft since 1983. When new specifications are released that require strenuous approvals by USDOD Commands, such as NAVSEA, DMI is willing to devote the time, personnel and financial investment to satisfy the requirements of the specification to obtain these approvals. Diversified Metals was instrumental in obtaining NAVSEA approval to become a major supplier of bar stock certified to T9074-BD-GIB-010/300. This steel is used in the building of new submarines and ships as well as in the repair of these same vessels. It is these award winning quality control procedures that have earned business from many prime contractors and government procurement agencies, as well as large and small manufacturing facilities nationally and internationally.
