Development and Progress Environment Srl is a company that since 2007, in Brianza, precisely in the Municipality of Vimercate (MB), has been dealing with the treatment and recovery of non-hazardous special waste coming from the sweeping of streets and squares, excavation aggregates, cleaning of networks sewerage.

Thanks to the combination of skills in the technical, plant engineering and management fields consolidated by its members and exponents in the environmental field, it has developed innovative waste treatment systems and procedures compared to those generally in use for these types of waste.

Located close to the center of Vimercate, the plant has a total capacity of 60,000 tons/year and is currently able to treat all solid waste coming from the maintenance of paved surfaces (e.g. sweeping earth), from purification activities ( e.g. sand for purification, drainage of road drains), excavation and handling (e.g. rubble, earth). The geographical location of the center is considered strategic, both for its proximity to the Milanese metropolitan area, and because it serves the important catchment area of ​​lower Brianza and for its proximity to very important motorway junctions.

The choice of Sviluppo e Progresso Ambiente Srl to create a treatment and recovery center for waste containing a significant fraction of sand and gravel was born from the need felt in the area to provide a natural completion to the road sweeping, purification and excavation services managed by the Common.

Currently, the significant portion of this waste is sent to landfill sites, otherwise it could be recovered and reintroduced into the production cycle as a raw material, achieving an undoubted environmental advantage.

Already with the enactment of Legislative Decree no. 22 of 02/05/1997 confirmed by Legislative Decree 152/6, the importance of recovery centers as the main alternative to landfill has been strengthened. The same Provincial and Regional Waste Management Plans commonly identify the construction of plants of this type among their main objectives.

The authorized activities allow the R13 reserve and R5 recovery of the following non-hazardous special waste for a maximum annual quantity of 60,000 tons

The waste delivered to the plant comes from:

Municipalities, Associations of Municipalities, Mountain Communities, public service management companies or their concessionaires and deriving from selected collections, collection centers and infrastructures for the separate collection of urban waste;
Companies managing temporary storage facilities for third parties for urban waste;
Productive businesses (industrial, artisanal).

THE SYSTEM AND THE IMPORTANCE OF WATER IN THE PROCESS

The presence of an area adjacent to the intermunicipal purifier responds to the needs of minimizing the degradation induced by an activity with intrinsic environmental impact, and allows the abundant water resources of the purifier to be used as an alternative to natural ones.

In fact, thanks to the wide availability of purified water offered by the adjacent purification plant, the SPA plant for washing soil is able to use a flow of water equal to a flow rate of 50 litres/second of purified water, as well as discharge the waste water from its inertization processes into the same flow rate.

The feature that differentiates the plant designed by Sviluppo e Progresso Ambiente Srl from the centers built previously is precisely the use of large volumes of water for washing the aggregates, subsequently being able to purify it directly in its own purifier and reuse it.

In the Vimercate plant of Sviluppo e Progresso Ambiente Srl, the latest generation applied technologies make it possible to reuse, by washing them, sand, gravel and sweeping earth to provide municipalities with a natural completion, which means being able to save a ton of CO2 for each ton of material recovered; furthermore, without this procedure the swept soil would end up entirely in landfill.

From a statistic now established and developed over the ten-year activity of the plant, a quantity of material recovered equal to 91% of the total introduced into the plant mouth emerged.

By recovering the swept lands, the cities continue to live ideally in our materials. In the washing phase we have always found many foreign elements, but an integral part of the urban ecosystem, for example seeds of plants from the waste production area.
