The Turner family tradition is to provide our customers with quality jewelry of lasting value. It began when Dean Turner moved his family from Cuyahoga Falls to Coshocton, Ohio in 1956 to manage a local jewelry store. He fell in love with Coshocton, and ten years later he purchased his own store, Dean's Jewelry. Dean's son Tim joined the store in 1968 after attending Gem City College in Quincy, Illinois, where he studied gold-smithing and stone setting. In the beginning Tim did the repair work for the family's store. He assumed management responsibilities a few years later. Dean owed much of his success to the fact that he was active in the community and was a colorful character, well-liked in his new hometown. Dean embraced the opportunity to serve people of all income brackets, espousing the idea that quality jewelry is not just for the few, but for everyone - a philosophy that remains a cornerstone of the business today. In 1991 Dean retired, and Tim took the helm. Through the years Dean's Jewelry has grown based upon Tim's unwavering focus and commitment to a central business goal: be a pleasure to do business with. Those values are instilled in his children as well.
Tim’s eldest daughter Michelle started working for her Grandpa Dean at 14 years old. She graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh with a degree in Graphic Arts Illustration and Design. She studied business in Columbus, OH for several years and in 2004 she returned to Coshocton and rejoined the family business. She has since earned a degree from The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in both diamonds and diamond grading. Michelle is currently a part-owner of Dean’s Jewelry. Michelle’s younger sister Kristy also worked in the store as a teenager. Kristy is a graduate Gemologist from GIA. After working in diamond grading and gem identification for 2 years, she returned to the family business in Coshocton and was a big part of the company until 1998. Today she owns and operates her own massage business, Alternative Therapies and Massage, but still helps out in the jewelry store from time to time. Tim’s son Noah is a GIA Diamond graduate and has earned a bachelor’s degree in interpersonal communication from Bowling Green State University. He has been active in the jewelry business ever since, spending almost 2 years interning at family jewelry stores in both Springfield, MO and Philadelphia, PA. Noah is now also a part-owner of Dean’s. Tim’s youngest son Luke attended the Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad, CA and is a graduate jeweler. He has been doing the store's bench work since 2003. The family business has continued to prosper, and in 2007 the family opened a second Dean’s location in Mount Vernon. Even as Tim grooms the next generation to carry on the family tradition, he is relentless in his work ethic, setting the standard for hometown jewelers throughout the Midwest. Tim routinely travels to Belgium and India to hand-select fine diamonds for his customers. He has toured glittering gold mines across the African continent and even traversed Brazilian jungles to bring home amazing colored stones that he uses to create sparkling rings, pendants, bracelets, earrings, and countless handmade custom pieces. The Dean's Jewelry family carries forward the tradition of great American craftsmanship, with pride in exceptional value, and dedication to serving people. Dean’s Jewelry is a third generation local business and a treasure to this day, deep in the heart of Coshocton and Mount Vernon.
