Company Overview
Daylight Solutions was founded in January, 2005 by three high tech entrepreneurs. Today the company consists of 60 people who share a vision of developing and advancing breakthrough technologies and products that benefit society in meaningful ways. Since its inception, Daylight Solutions has differentiated itself by delivering unique and highly advanced “Best in Class” products and services.
Daylight Solutions’ molecular detection and imaging products consist primarily of lasers, sensors, and imaging systems, all of which leverage the company’s mid-infrared, quantum cascade laser (QCL) technology. This core technology provides a versatile platform from which new products are developed, allowing the company to serve markets that include Scientific Research, Life Sciences, Defense, and Commercial.
The company is committed to innovation and introduced the world’s first broadly tunable mid-infrared laser system for scientific research, the world’s first semiconductor-based laser for protecting aircraft against shoulder-fired missiles, and the world’s first mid-infrared laser-based microscope for real-time biochemical imaging and material analysis.
Daylight Solutions consists of two separate business units. In 2009 the company created a wholly owned subsidiary to address the specific requirements of the defense industry. As a subsidiary, Daylight Defense developed the business and manufacturing infrastructure necessary to deliver classified, military-hardened products to the government. The Commercial business unit supports all other non-defense activities ranging from life sciences to industrial and consumer products.
Daylight Solutions and Daylight Defense are both ISO-9001 certified and possess advanced manufacturing capabilities.

The Daylight Solutions Core Technology
Daylight Solutions is the world leader in Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) based molecular detection and imaging systems. The company pioneered the commercialization of QCLs by combining QC gain media with our patented External Cavity Quantum Cascade Laser (ECqcL™) technology. The result was a robust, broadly tunable or fixed wavelength mid-infrared (mid-IR) laser source.
Daylight Solutions is now the premiere manufacturer of components, subsystems, and systems for sensors and high power illuminators in the mid-IR spectrum. The company earned its leadership role by bringing together experts from related disciplines and integrating technologies through applied research and development while maintaining a focus on scalable manufacturability.
- QC gain media advanced through collaborative research efforts with our partners, and made commercially viable through patented die attach and packaging technology.
- Anti-Reflective (AR) coatings developed specifically for QC gain media and mid-IR fibers.
- Advanced, miniature aspheric lenses that enable micro-optic packaging and diffraction-limited performance in the mid-IR.
- Telecom-style packaging technology adapted to enable robust, miniaturized modules that function as flexible platforms for a variety of OEM applications.
- Broadly tunable mid-infrared laser sources based on our patented external cavity technology (ECqcL™). Our laser sources are tunable up to 25% of their center wavelengths, or 300cm-1in pulsed or continuous wave (CW) mode. Sources are also available with up to 150cm-1tunability in Mode-Hop Free (MHF) operation.
Daylight Solutions leverages its core technologies to deliver commercial- and military-grade system-level solutions for markets that include Scientific Research, Medical Diagnostics, Environmental and Industrial Monitoring, and Defense.
