A leader in freight rail transportation for almost 190 years, CSX has a railroad history that dates back to the early 19th century when the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company (B&O) – the nation’s first common carrier – was chartered in 1827. Since that time, CSX has built on the foundation laid by early pioneers who had a vision to create a railroad that could safely and reliably serve the ever-increasing demands of a growing nation.
