With more than 50 employees, Crow Wing Recycling is a family-owned business that buys, processes and sells scrap metals—ferrous and nonferrous—from automobiles, trucks, appliances, machines and that generated by industry through construction or deconstruction of facilities.
Headquartered in Brainerd, MN, the environmentally certified facility is situated on XX acres and operates feeder yards in Pine River (Pine River Iron and Metal) and Milaca (Milaca Iron and Metal). Crow Wing Recycling processed 120,000 tons of ferrous and 10-million pounds of nonferrous scrap metal in 2012.
SCRAP RECYCLING INDUSTRY
From the earliest uses of scrap thousands of years ago to the optical scanners, X-rays and air jets separating materials in today’s high-tech shredders, scrap recycling has evolved as a major industry.
As the original recyclers, for decades — and indeed, centuries — the scrap recycling industry in the United States has been purchasing, processing and brokering old materials to be remade into new products. The scrap industry is truly the first link in the supply chain, serving as the backbone for America’s manufacturing sector while simultaneously promoting a more sustainable society.
