The legislator has imposed strict conditions on the cash payment of all scrap metal transactions in Belgium:
the seller is a consumer? Maximum 500 euros in cash for all transactions of old ferrous and non-ferrous metals that can be linked together.

For the law, a consumer is 'any natural person who acts for purposes that do not fall within the scope of his commercial, industrial, craft or liberal activity'.

The consumer must also be identified or registered. is the seller a professional? Cash payments are prohibited. Cash payments are prohibited for copper cables of any shape and composition.

The fines amount to a maximum of 10% of the amount paid, and can reach 225,000 Euro, to be multiplied by the additional decimals in force (8x in August 2019). for a purchase amount of 1000 euros, the fine can reach 800 euros
