More than 15,000 weapons have been recycled at the Zeleznik Recycling Center, through a project to destroy weapons that the Interior Ministry has been implementing for years with the support of UNDP / SEESAC.
Zeljko Veselinovic, Assistant Minister of the Interior and Head of the Sector for Material and Financial Affairs, attended the destruction of weapons together with representatives of the UNDP / SEESAC and the Delegation of the European Union.
- So far, more than 100,000 weapons have been destroyed. Today, about 15,000 weapons were destroyed, of which 14,000 were collected by the Ministry of the Interior in various procedures - criminal, misdemeanor or administrative. One part was spent in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. All this would not be possible without cooperation with partners, primarily with the European Union and the UNDP - said Veselinović.
Project Coordinator Jelena Bujaković from UNDP / SEESAC emphasized the importance of this event, which, as she said, contributes to the activities carried out by the Ministry of Interior in accordance with the national strategy, as well as the Roadmap for Arms Control in the Western Balkans from 2019 to 2024. .
