Carlson Metal Products History

In 1971, Ed Carlson opened his Metro Detroit area job shop to provide sheet metal products to manufacturers. He continued to manage the company and expand the capabilities of Carlson Metal Products with the help of his employees and management team. After 30 years managing his company, Ed Carlson retired and sold the company to John Martin, who had been with the company since 1980.

John Martin has continued in the footsteps of the company’s founder in expanding the capabilities of the shop – including recently adding powder coating to the list of services available to CMP customers. He has also applied his experience in precision sheet metal work to create a side business selling aluminum drink holders for outdoor use.
